Hopefully by now, you would have found a good profile that would somehow give justice to how great a person you really are! But, there are a few things that you should avoid in profile pictures, which we will discuss here.
Now, almost all people in the online dating world are or were guilty of one or more of the "Abominations" items in this list. It's okay if you were guilty of it in the past, just promise that you will try to avoid all of them in the future, okay? So here is the first part of our profile picture "Abomination":
1. First Abomination: The disembodied arm.Okay, if you're not a member of the Adams family, then a disembodied arm is an abomination. We know that many people just love to cuddle you, not to mention put their arms around your shoulders. But, unless you want the other person in the picture with you too, then do not cut them and leave their arms with you. All those pictures that you have with your ex's arms around you? No, it's not okay to just cut out your ex and post the picture, sans your ex, but still with your ex's arms. What's that? Oh, it wasn't your ex's arms around you on that picture? Well, since you decided to crop him/ her out, then that's what people will conclude because otherwise, why crop them?
2. Second Abomination: Erasing your Friends or Ex. Photoshop and Corel are such wonderful programs. It allows you to edit group pictures so that they become solo pics. But, using the Eraser tool and just erasing their faces or their entire bodies, leaving ominous black or white misshapen holes is a bad practice. Why? Because the picture will be ruined! I've browsed through online dating sites, and this malpractice is everywhere! Say that there are three people in the picture, guess whose profile it is? Well, the face that's entirely there, and not the black or white smudges on either side of it. It's one thing to cut them out because of privacy, but I think it would be better if you just go and look for a picture with only you in it.
3. Third Abomination: The Blurred Out People. This is similar to the second, but instead of just erasing the offensive people off the picture, they went and used the Blur tool. Again, my advise, just look for another picture.
4. Fourth Abomination: The Shirtless Man and Cleavage Girl. Okay, I know that you've been hitting the gym lately and want to show off all those hard-earned abs and muscles. But please guys, your profile picture is not the appropriate place for it. You can share it with your wealthy single after you have already gotten to know each other a little better. Just please, don't post it on your profile picture. For the ladies, please don't post that picture with your cleavage showing. Why? Because nine times out of ten, the emails that you will receive will be inappropriate and full of innuendos. Now, I know that you probably did not want that in the first place, so just avoid pictures that reveal too much skin, okay?
5. Fifth Abomination: Horrid Self-Portraits. There's a reason why we have friends. And one of those reasons is for them to take your picture. Unless you camera has a good timer and you're exceptionally fast to go back in front of it in time for a good smile, then you should not use a self-portrait for your profile picture. What have you got to contend against? There's awkward angles, bad lighting, and awful backgrounds. So, still think that you should take a photo of yourself? I think it would be better next time to just hand over the camera, okay?
